Student Interviews
Mindful Teaching
Throughout this film, there are many examples of why I believe Mr. Anderson is a good teacher. In this particular scene, it is clear that he has a personal relationship with his student. I think this is really important, because it makes students feel like they are cared about, and it gives them more motivation in the classroom. Throughout the film, Mr. Anderson encouraged his student Charlie to learn by giving him specific material that interested him. Now, on the last day of school, he tells Charlie that he will continue to do this for him even though he will no longer be his teacher. This shows how much he truly cares about his students, which is a wonderful quality in a teacher. He also tells Charlie that he believes in him, and that he has the potential to become successful in something he loves. Instead of acting like he knows much more than his students, which many teachers often do, he makes his students feel smart.
Not-so-Mindful Teaching
In this scene, Mr. Vernon shows many examples of bad teaching. The first thing that I noticed was the tone of voice he uses when talking to his students. Secondly, he completely ignores his students when they speak to them, as if he is too important for them. He is aggressive with his tone as well as his physicality. He points fingers, rips a chair from underneath one of the students, and threatens them to behave. He speaks to them as if they do not know anything, and he wants it to be clear that he has more power than them.
